10 gb network anyone? Quanta LB6M 10GB Switch?

I’ve just found a great 10GB 24-Port SFP+ Switch on ebay and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this brand or model???
Quanta LB6M 10GB 24-Port SFP+ Switch Dual Power QY139A

It really cheap on ebay US $239.00 for 24 X 10GB SFP+

I feel like I’ve heard of them before but can’t remember where/when. At that price it would be worth trying though the SPF modules are expensive. If you get it you should give us a review as I’m looking for some 10GB+ networking equipment for a few projects.

I got one on E-Bay. It works great… It was hard to find any documentation that was correct but I found enough. The web interface is not enabled by default in the firmware. These units were taken out of production and then flashed to the factory default. Worth the cash I got mine for $99.00 in June of 2016. Im using the 10gb ports with out problem and I can recommend compatible transceivers.

I wish I could have 10Gb through my house, or at least at the servers.

@Joe

Is the switch really loud? cause i think that i will replace the face inside and might mod the switch?
Did you bought some SFP+ cable from ebay? or expensive brand one?

@WizardTux
What’s stopping you? at the price you cannot got wrong…
LOT OF 5 MNPA19-XTR 10GB US $64.99
Quanta LB6M US $249
a few fan to make it silent…

Wish the currency what more equal,… 1 CAD = 0.75 USD or 1 USD =1.332 CAD

I will post my work when i will be receiving the switch, even might do a video

@jolejo8
I’ve not had a ton of time or extra money to do anything with my internal network. My whole Windows network is trashed (the HDDs in my HyperV host failed) since it was mainly a lab environment I didn’t do any backups of that network… Just wasn’t expecting to loose it all in a day. My other (secret-ish) project seems to of actually started working though so I may be doing some posts relating to that.

I’ve been saving 80Gb hdd from my last job for this purpose…
none production os don’t really need more than that,
just find out a way to restart the ESXI evaluation licence with a script, so that i can install PFsense in it…
i dind’t want to pay for the licence just to have the ability to start a VM by itself when the esxi restart because of an power outage… :slight_smile:
the 80 gb hdd doesn’t seem to died, i have a like 6 in pc/server… and 10-15 spare,

I like ProxMox for my home stuff, its free and full featured, though my next revision of my home network may be a little different now that I’m using platforms like OpenStack and such, the only problem is the amount of equipment needed.

The switch just arrive :slight_smile:,
I would like to know your thought about my project. I would like to make the switch quieter because right now the 3 fans in the back are 55dba fan and i cannot have this at home.
I’ll be running only one PSU at a time.
I will replace the two PSU fan for Noctua 40mm.
I would put two Noctua SF-F12 120m fan intake in the front and another one in the back has outake.
I would remove the 3 in the back and cover the hole/grill.
Tks

I would suggest switching out the fans, and putting some load on it while watching the temp, if it seems normal I’d say you were good but if not then you would probably need to figure something else out.

Someone from Servethehome forum post that he replace all the fan for Noctua 40mm but those fans move less then the half of what the original fan move. The guy was telling that the switch was really hot and smelling burn but it was stil running.
I’ve ask a guy on the forum to post a photo of his project with external fans. He have nice cold temperature
. Temp (Celsius)… 38
I’ll mesure mine before doing the surgery :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s sad to see that you have setup a nice platform but no one is using it …

I have so much to say, and so many questions. I have so many questions daily I’d love to ask here, but I simply can’t find the time in my day currently. Nor can I find anyone reliable to help me with some workload.
Im right in the middle of planning a 10Gbe upgrade for the core network, bringing online shared storage etc.
I should probably do a video at some point, and rant about how I need a load to buy the $8k VMWare license :confused:

I think that people are just too busy… I’d like more people to post but it’s a pretty niche market. Though I don’t plan on taking it down. The more people that post the higher the page rank and that will result in more users.

When I post more details about my openstack project we may see a boost in traffic, but worst case is we are here for those that know about us.

I’m pretty sure when you do your video you don’t write your text/speech in advance? I’m having difficulty to tell every thing that i want the rigth way…

When i read a text it seems pretty boring …

My 10 home silent network project @Liam .
The projec is finish i only need to do the video about it … boring stuff

dose this switch support VLANS, LAG, Jumbo Frames, and L3 Routing? is configuring it close to a cisco? im in the market for a 10G Switch but need all of those not really the L3 but would be nice to have for piggybacking a gigabit switch t0

I’ve haven’t play a lot with it since last years. Because it’s been really stable.
I didn’t need those feature, layer3 so I didn’t check for it. I was able to get close to the 10GB on Linux and windows 10. But not windows 7.
