I’m curious to know what certification you guys have or plan to have in the next year, or if you only have a bachelor degree
For myself,
I got a 3 years degree in computer science, where i did some web, java, C++, SQL, network, linux (our school system is special here),
I start a bachelor in technology information enginering last years
My futur plan
CCNA I’ll go pass first test before the end of the summer ( i got to finish something important first at university),
Maybe CCNA Security after that or CCNP R&S
Well I don’t have any official schooling or certificates right now, I’ve been studying for my MCSA and my Google Apps for Work certs for my new job. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity for a career in IT with my knowledge and not having any certs.
I think people haven’t seen me post as much so they haven’t been posting… I haven’t been on because I’ve been pretty sick (if you can tell from my voice in the latest videos, those were made at the beginning of this, whatever I’ve had). I was on last night (at home) for the first time in a week(ish).
Certifications (Microsoft, 3CX, ect) were one of the things promised to me when i started working at the company i’m with now. So far i have have nothing so if i ever quit or got fired I’ve got nothing to fall back on… However some days being a rubbish truck boy is more tempting then being in I.T.
Though expensive, you could always get them on your own, MCSA is $150USD x 3 (for each test). I’m probably going to get my Google Cert this coming week.
You should go for the MCSA by yourself @Brad, or you’ll wait a long time before your boss tell you, go study a little bit to go pass the test, they are really happy if you have those cert but they will never give some of the time of the compagny so that you can have it…
@Connor i’ve never heard of Google Cert? whats field are they? programming, cloud?
A+, Net+, Microsoft Certified Professional. I never had enough money to do university but you can’t lose with a university education. Although a lot a companies want university and certifications… I’ve had bad experiences with companies only hiring contract positions. Left a bad taste in my mouth with IT. Guess i should have done university :P.
Personally i won’t be doing IT much longer as i hate sitting on my butt all day. But that’s a personal choice.
I don’t have alot of motivation for university because i know i would learn alot more stuff outside with a job/cert and I’m doing alot of stuff that i don’t want to do later even if i enjoy doing some… like programming/math/business.
But i was afraid not to find job later in life when i’ll want to be system/network administrator because a lot of the job post write that they require a bachelor. So i’m at university only to have the piece because there only 4-5 cours that are really interesting
@Fr0zen Ask your boss or buy yourself a standing desk? what job are you doing? because with server/networking you could go fix clients server/switch/router sometime? I was doing this in my previous job/intership as an help desk/junior admin
I’m not sure if you know what is a DEC in Quebec? but i only done that for education
The career I’m in the process of switching to was something where they didn’t even want a resume, they literally said send us a paragraph about yourself, I did and now I’m transitioning into full time with them. BTW I just passed my Google Administrator Certification (it’s not that hard).
Should be, I’m just terrified of that test… I suck at tests the google test was practical (e.g. it gave me scenarios and I did what needed to be done).
