Request: New Forum Section - Information Security

Howdy!

I would like to please request a new subsection for IT Security discussions, guides, etc. I am aware that there is currently a [Security Feeds] section, but I feel like that section has a very specific purpose and should be separated from other threads.

I propose the following:

  • Add a new [SecurIT] subsection; perhaps below [Tech Support].
  • Move [Security Feeds] into the new [SecurIT] subsection
  • Create a new subforum in that [SecurIT] subsection. Name idea: [The Lockdown Lounge]
  • Consider expanding later on, if needed

I envision this section as a communication bridge between developers, sysadmins, support, and security. It’s really helpful to have channels like this open where these groups can co-mingle, specifically on the topic of security. There can be an unfortunate level of animosity between these IT subgroups. I would love to foster an open environment where the criticality of security can be discussed, shared, and embraced by everyone involved in the IT field. The goal being to create a more collaborative atmosphere.

This could open the door more topics in these areas:

  • Security best practices, guidelines, and recommendations.
  • Discussions about the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and emerging trends.
  • In-depth analyses of security incidents and their implications.
  • Security tools, resources, and training materials.
  • Tutorials and how-to guides for implementing security measures, hardening systems, and improving overall security posture.
  • Q&A threads to address specific security-related questions, concerns, or issues.
  • Collaboration opportunities, including sharing ideas and solutions for security projects and initiatives.

This is definitely the niche of IT that I live in and I enjoy sharing my passion for it.

I like this idea and I think it flows with this suggestion as well, I’ll work on getting this implemented.
