So i just started rebuilding my rack. i work as an electronics recycler and we get lots of 2 or 3 gen old enterprise hardware. we can buy this stuff dirt cheap >$50. anyways i got a Dell R910 (4x Xeon [email protected] 10C 1024GB Ram (yes that 1 TB)) it has 2 10G Nics also got a few SSDs and 15k Drives in it less than 2T Raw, it is running ESX 6.5. i just picked up a 16bay 2x xeon X5640(6c HT 286GB Ram) with 2 10G Nics i got 13 4TB Enterprise 7200RPM dives in it(RMA Process for 2 of them), it is running FreeNAS.
the next step is 10G Switch and a 1Gig switch, all i have is my old 10/100(this will be an insane upgrade)

i just got the FreeNas up and running.
i do plan on bringing my old site back online once i have everything in place. have about 10 VMs running ATM all ready to go.

Dell PowerEdge 1950 - Firewall
Dell PowerEdge 2950 - Proxmox
Dell PowerEdge T410 - Nothing Currently (no hard drives)
My Crappy NAS (4TB Total Storage)
2 Unifi AC-Pros
1 Cisco SB200-26

my original 3 1950s and 1 2950 plus my 12bay fileserver didnt fair well after 2 years in storage not one of them would POST.

I need to upgrade, I hope to be acquiring some from a client soon. Otherwise maybe I’ll bite the bullet and buy another set. Though I’d like to change up my server infrastructure when I do that.
