It’s been a work in progress situation..

2x DL380 G6 Quad core, 32GB ECC Memory, 1tb SAS Drives in raid 5

1x PE2950 Dual core, 16GB ECC, not in use but possibly soon for storage.

NAS 2tb raid 1

2x Gigabit managed switches

1x HP IP KVM

I’m extremely happy with how it’s turned out, had to spend some money but worth it in the end. Let me know what you think? Comments and suggestions welcome.

Cheers.

Very nice server rack, clean and good cable management :slightly_smiling: , with your PE2950, you should check openmediavault distro, it like freenas but much easier + debian , i’ll do a post about it this weekend

What do you do with the 2x DL380? virtualization ? vm distro or purpose?

Thanks man,

The DL380 G6’s are running ESXI 5.5, i have about 5 VM’s not all running but available.

VM’s

OpenVPN Ventrilo Owncloud Ubuntu 14.04 Apache Webserver Windows Server 2012 datacenter (Free from Dreamspark)

For now and for power reasons I’m trying to keep only 1x DL380 running. But eventually would like a cluster/load balancing between the 2 servers. The PE2950 has ESXI as well but was thinking of FreeNAS or Owncloud, currently i have 3x 1TB SATA drives in it. So i should do something with it 😛

@Fr0zen cool to see this, I'm new here and still just watching homelab stuff, so a real rack is fun to look at. Is this still how it looks today, or has it changed since you posted? I noticed you said you wanted to keep only one DL380 on because of power. Did you ever get the two working together, and did the PE2950 end up as storage? I'm also curious what you still actually use day to day. Like is Owncloud still there, or did you swap it for something else? Sorry if these are basic questions, I'm trying to learn what a setup like this is really used for. I'm hoping to start with just a cheap mini pc, so hearing what you'd do differently if you started over would help me a lot.
