So back in 2017 I was in a different house that I rented from a family member. and I was looking through the old forums and found these old pictures, btw this was just a home lab and I realize there are some things that I should of done better / different.

Where I ran external lines from the house (both CAT6 and coax) from the house (left) to the external garage (right). 12-77cee404245332999ac62cd83421ce8e 13-c95b35d2edae73bcbd52d88fb9b7756f

Here is the full run. 14-8ec2a2c02ded25c38bc191cfa39b7732 Then this was "version one" of the room where I had all my servers. 16-98e7e114cac23ef34395c27f9b60c96b 17-9479642501f9d9a8d18b64fc5361854a

And this was the AP that we had in the external garage. 18-35dd878bac3aa4b5a982885497a6ade6

Good times! I just completed a wireless infrastructure overhaul not long ago. Always fun to keep our home networks in shape! My Wi-Fi charts look so much better now. I migrated to all mesh APs.

I'm likely going to wire this whole house and make the wifi better here too at some point.

Some pleasant memories come to mind as I think back on my home network update. I started off with a simple configuration that was unable to meet my growing needs—slow speeds, frequent disconnections, and dead zones in specific rooms. I therefore concluded that a complete overhaul was necessary.

Investigating routers and mesh networks was the first step. In the end, I decided on a strong mesh system that could cover my entire house. To lessen interference, I added extenders, updated the router, and rearranged the devices. In addition, I spent time organising the cabling and setting up QoS (Quality of Service) for gaming and streaming.

The change was astounding once everything was in place. The signal was strong in every room, the speeds were steady, and streaming was easy. It not only made my daily tasks easier, but its dependable video calls and quick uploads also improved my experience working from home.

Its amazing what some little upgrades (and sometimes major ones) can do to help the network. I recently had a HP desktop running PFSense and when it had a lot of traffic going through it it would lock up, swapping that out for a Netgate box has helped a ton and now if I want, I can get 10gig to the house.

I think I'm about to start another upgrade here at this new house (maybe in a few months)... I'm starting to get excited.
